I have always been curious about what the team "fashionista" means? Who can be one? Who can’t? And who decides?
Well according to the dictionary the term Fashionista can be define as the following:
“A person who creates or promotes high fashion, i.e. a fashion designer or fashion editor; a person who dresses according to the trends of high fashion”
If you really look at this definition, this than excludes a lot of people who are now self appointing themselves with this title-who feel they belong to this uber exclusive club that the rest of us Jane Doe’s do not belong in. But here’s the part that confuses me…there are groups of these particular breed of girls/women who do not even belong to any of the categories outlined in the definition above.

They are not designers, they are not fashion editors, they are not people who can even afford to dress in accordance to high fashion standards-heck their not even fashion stylists, yet somehow they feel they’ve earned the title of being referred to as a fashionista? Dictating what someone ought to wear? PLEASE!!!!
So than I am thinking maybe there should be a new definition of what the word ‘fashionista’ really means? One that perhaps incorporates all the trust fund babies, fashion bloggers, the obsessed vogue/vanity fair subscribers, the shallow bitches who think they’re better than everyone else because they blew a whole pay check on a pair of shoes? Because honestly and truly speaking, it’s this group of girls that make me hater the damn word.
Seriously, call me crazy if you may. But wouldn’t a true fashionista not be someone who does not obsessively follows trend? Instead paving the way and basking in their uniqueness.
Personally speaking, I have never opened a magazine to see what type of trends I should be following. I have never purchased a pair of shoes that cost over $40-80 at most. I do not own any designer names in my closet unless given to me accidentally by a friend who’s unaware that I am not enslaved by designer goods. I have never felt validated by my clothes, or felt less of a woman because I did not jump off the fashion spread of Vogue Magazine.
Don’t get it twisted though for I am trend setter in my own right, for my damn self and no body else. I command attention wherever I go, not because of the clothes I am wearing, but the confidence I am accessorising with. And I can still rock a mean pair of old boots I’ve purchased 5 years ago and top it off with a $39.99 sweater I pulled off the SALE section of H&M looking as fly as eagle soaring to new heights.

So don’t watch me little girls. That’s what your TV is for!
