But now I look for lessons learned.
I use to play the field,
But now my love is reserved for one.
I use to talk real loud and too often,
But now I communicate less and without words.
I use to see her as my enemy,
But now I see her as a victim of the same circumstance.
I use to care about what you think of me,
But now I only care what I think of me.
I use to be extravagant,
But now I find beauty in simplicity.
I use to bottle all my rage and anger inside,
But now I write and find release.
I use to limit my potential,
But now I am limitless.
I use to sit in the bleachers and watch my life unfold,
But now I am an active player.
I use to be too open,
But now I am reserved.
I use to waste my time with people, places and events,
But now I am the person, my house is the place and my life it the event.
I use to wonder if I made a mistake letting you go,
But now I know it was your mistakes that made me go.
I use to like being the center of attention,
But now I am content blending in the crowd.
I use to think that 1 was a lonely number,
But now I know one still make a whole person.
I use to be my biggest critic,
But now I am my number one fan.
I use to be scared of aging,
But now I see the beauty in growing old.
I use to be her,
But now I am me.
So don’t think just because you knew her,
That you know me.
