Black

“Words are my weapons
Words console, comfort and calm me when all else fails me

♥ Black

"More than just a shadow"

Before black was left out of the rainbow
And children were taught black is not a color but a shade.
A shade, a shadow.
Before liquorish candy made little children repulsed by the color black.
Before dark skin sisters became a dying breed on television.
Before our definition of beauty was defined by light skin.
Before slavery had some of our brothers walking around with green eyes.
Before our African brothers were found lacking in comparison.
Before our nation got divided up by skin shades, nose sizes and hair textures.
Before Nigger became one of the most used words in our black communities.
Before self hatred was embedded in us,
With every Hollywood blockbuster featuring black criminal.
Every music video with half naked black woman shaking their asses for a dollar.
Every child being exposed.
Watching,
And growing up
thinking this is the black norm.
Before all this
Black was the thing to be.
And if you had any sense you would know
IT STILL IS
